Benidorm

Beyond the English Breakfast

Benidorm · EuropePublished March 2026
Introduction

Famous for sunshine, skyscrapers and seaside holidays, Benidorm has far more to offer than its British stereotypes suggest. Beyond the cafés serving full English breakfasts lies a destination rich in history, culture, architecture and stunning coastal scenery. This walk explores some of the town's most interesting landmarks and hidden gems.

L'Aigüera Park

Designed by renowned Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill, L'Aigüera Park forms a green corridor through the heart of Benidorm. Lined with palm trees, gardens and walking paths, it provides a peaceful contrast to the busy beaches and hosts concerts and community events throughout the year.

Poniente Beach

Stretching for more than two miles, Poniente Beach offers a quieter and more relaxed atmosphere than its eastern neighbour. Its wide golden sands, attractive promenade and excellent views make it popular with families, walkers and those seeking a calmer side of Benidorm.

Sunshine, skyscrapers and a fishing-village heart hiding in plain sight beneath the resort's modern skyline.

Old Town

Perched between Benidorm's two main beaches, the Old Town preserves the character of the original fishing village. Narrow streets, traditional whitewashed buildings, independent shops and lively tapas bars create a distinctly Spanish atmosphere that feels worlds away from the resort's modern skyline.

Balcony of the Mediterranean

Occupying a rocky promontory between Levante and Poniente beaches, the Balcony of the Mediterranean is one of Benidorm's most iconic viewpoints. Its brilliant white balustrades frame spectacular panoramic views of the coastline, beaches and surrounding mountains.

Church of St James & St Anne

Standing proudly above the Old Town, this striking blue-domed church dates largely from the eighteenth century. Dedicated to Benidorm's patron saints, it remains an important religious landmark and offers visitors a glimpse into the town's cultural and spiritual heritage.

Levante Beach

Benidorm's most famous beach is a vibrant hub of activity from morning until late evening. Its golden sands, clear waters, bustling promenade and surrounding cafés, bars and restaurants make it the centre of the resort's energetic holiday atmosphere.

Sol Pelícanos Ocas Hotel

One of Benidorm's best-known hotels, the Sol Pelícanos Ocas gained international fame as the setting for the television comedy Benidorm. Popular with holidaymakers, its large lagoon-style swimming pool and central location make it a recognisable resort landmark.
